He was certainly a great man along with Washington, Adams (whose descendant
was a Viet Nam Helicopter pilot from my class). However, he started the
Democratic-Republican Party which became the Democratic Party. The
Republican Party was not formed until the mid-1850s. The
Democratic-Republican Party split when Jackson became president. They
briefly took on the name National Republicans, but shortly afterwards
became the Whig party.
