Some serious flying there.  We had a Blackhawk try a medevac of some climbers on a mountain here in New Mexico a few years ago.  The aircraft could not handle it and crashed.  I remember wishing the 160th had been here with their Hooks. I expect it would have been a much happier ending.

Subject: [Vhfcn-l] Article about Chinooks incl Gary Roush

Good article about Chinooks, with stories by those who’ve flown them:  https://www.airspacemag.com/airspacemag/move-it-180972952/
The article says the CH-47 first flew in 1961, and first flew in combat in 1965.  The article also says the Army plans to employ the Chinook until 2060, making it an airframe that will have endured for nearly a century of service.
The first Chinook driver quoted in the article is our own Gary Roush.
