We had been running recon on that hill and all the areas west. When one of our teams stopped at the Dak To airfield and attempted to violate our security rules, the Bde ignored them and refused to accept the update. Our teams had actually recorded many of the trails, cache sites and the stair routes the NVA had built earlier. I left recon for the II corps mike force to replace a guy KIA while supporting the task force at Dak To.
I remember it all too well. I lost good friends in the Herd and SF during that time.

Subject: [Vhfcn-l] Hill 875
Today we remember the 127 men from the 173rd Abn Bde who lost their lives on
Hill 875 (Nov 19-23) during the Battle for Dak To, Nov 1967.
In Feb-Mar 2017 Steve Green, Wambi Cook and myself returned to the Hill with
a Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) team to begin the search for
three men not recovered. We were the first Americans allowed on the hill
since the end of the war.
