Our Buddy Mel is in the hospital and not doing so well. He has had a
plethora of medical issues and I'm afraid it has gotten the best of him.
He's had great care in a superb medical facility, but now feels everyone is
out to get him and he doesn't want to cooperate. He even thinks Sue, his
wife, is in cahoots with the medical staff.
Tom Matason, is local, and will try to visit Mel today. I think Mel needs to
have the support of a local vet who can get him on the straight and narrow.
A few months ago Mel fell at his home, all alone and without his phone. Was
several hours before someone found him. Spent a while in hosp.
Mel is a terrible diabetic and started have problems in his lower
extremities. Had some abscesses that had to be taken care of. Lost his big
toe. Recently had vascular rotor router of couple arteries. When blood was
restored to his foot Doctors realized the damage was too far gone. Just had
his lower leg and foot amputated (midway between knee and foot).
So now, I believe, it has infected his mind and he feels everyone is out to
get him. He's in a great Hospital with great care, but isn't thinking
straight and not helping himself. Doesn't want to do anything, won't do
rehab, etc. He's at 100% with the VA and should have all kinds of assets
available to him. Sue has little to no experience with the VA and needs some
help or guidance. I hope Tom can get Sue with Mel's VSO so they can get all
that he deserves.
I'll add all the contact info I have at the bottom of this msg. I suggest
holding off on calling Mel, as well as Sue. You might text with Sue and ask
if she can talk on the phone. She's stressed out and doesn't need tons of
phone calls. I'll keep everyone up to date. I'm going to send "get well"
cards to his house so Sue can get them to Mel, where ever he is. Please,
send cards to Sue so she can see how many people are there to help her.
If you are close enough for a visit then please do. He might be moved soon
so I'd not mail or send anything to the hospital. Instead mail cards or
letters to Mel's house so she can get them to Mel.
Please add these two wonderful people to your prayers!
