That was the 1992 reunion in Philly. We took over the hotel. We had a Loach in the lobby!
A couple of hotels down the street there was a trauma conference for doctors, nurses paramedics and OR techs. Two of the attendees were an army colonel and major; both nurses who had served in Vietnam. We had a Huey gun ship beside the hotel. The two nurses came walking up the street. It was my turn to watch the Huey and answer questions when they came walking up the street - IN UNIFORM FATIGUES. I greeted them and politely shook their hands by the Huey. They were their last polite handshakes of the day. I knew what would would happen when I brought them inside.
Just inside the door, the First Cav had a bar. I told the nurses I had somebody they needed to meet. We went in and I announced who had joined us! Those two ladies had not been hugged and kissed like that in some time. Crying veterans were holding them and did not want to let go. The nurses were understandably flustered.
I could have taken them up to the next entrance where there some polite Navy pilots. (Note my signature below.)
Mel posted his yellow lined paper and said there was a new thing called electronic mail or E-mail. We could sign up and stay in touch. There were a dozen or more names the last time I saw the list.
Mel Canon
Mike Sloniker
Lou Rochat
John Plummer
Larry Russell
Roger Ek
J. C. Pennington
JIm McDaniel
Peter Dunev
Paul Pelland
That’s ten. (I jogged my memory by looking at my oldest VHFCN posts.)
Julie, (Separate PM to follow.)
