Suspect that the Jet engines on the B-36 also used Avgas when they went “Six turning and Four burning.” Have a friend who was a navigator on RB-36s. Have to ask him one of these days.

Respects -- Bruce

A co-worker at Pantex told me that he had been in a Marine reconnissance squadron in Japan in the '50.  They flew Banshees that used 115/145 avgas in their jet engines to get to higher altitude for photo runs over mainland China. If I recall correctly, he said that the engines had tighter than normal internal tolerances.

The P2V had the only jet engines I ever saw that ran on avgas. It had the world record for distance without being refueled. New Zealand to Maine.
