I have been lucky myself, but my lady is type 2 diabetic and has been for
more than 12 years now.
She says she was put on Metformin early on and stayed on it for probably 5
years or more. She also says she does not recall any specific problems with
it personally, but it has been 6 to 7 years now since she was on it.
She has other medical conditions that all together calls for a number of
drugs she takes daily, quite a few.
She was taken off the Metformin because it is apparently a strong or
significant drug, and additions or changes to her daily intake meant she
needed to drop it. Guess it did "not play well with others."
To replace it she was prescribed Acarbose instead, a less powerful
alternative and one that does not conflict with her other drugs.
