I never rigged an aircraft to use STABO. We only rigged them for ladders and McGuire rigs. So I am not sure where you used nuts and bolts. I expect things became more technical as time went on. All things considered, I am normally a fan of safety wire. Moe

i used safety wire, or yellow safety paint on the bolt and nut after tightening with torque wrench.

Well I was not sure if you meant the snap links on the ropes or at the terminal end when you anchored the lines to the floor of the aircraft. We used two snap links on each tie down ring but reversed them so both gates could not be opened by accident. I would have liked to have had STABO rigs but not in my day. It was hard to handle a radio, weapon, control the team and manage extraction of the first three when using McGuire rigs.
Still I met the guy who designed the McGuire Rig in HALO school. He was a SGM. He actually did design the rig named for him on a cocktail napkin in an NCO club in 65- or 66. I never saw that rig until 67 when I started running recon.
Cheers, Moe

Thanks Moe! We didn't use either, just a 150' rope with an ammo box tied on the end. When the tracers were passing between the LLRPS and the helicopter you were probably going to get a hug later.
The question was ask by the team currently in Vietnam and having never used the STABO I couldn't answer them.

Don't know but I used to wrap all my carabiner (we called them snap links) with tape to reduce shine. I never used the STABO, I only was extracted on McGuire rigs. Sorry that is all I can offer.

Flight
Was it common practice to wrap the carabiner on with electrical tape?
