When I was a kid in small town Iowa we had a group of people that flew
kites. One of those was teacher who was always trying new things. He built
an 8 foot tall box kite that he anchored to the bumper of his truck. The
kite was able to pick up one of the girls in our group. She hung onto a
bottom strut and let loose when her feet were a couple feet off the ground.
We also did a contest to see whose kite stayed up the longest. I also put a
kite, actually three tied to a single line, with 5 thousand feet of line. I
turned an old bicycle upside down an wound the line on the bike wheel.
Worked really well. I used a nylon line I bought at the local hardware
store. Old memories.
