John,
My wife has had A1C of 7+ and is now on Metforman. Seems to lower it but we haven’t been on it for too long so I can’t tell you much about it. She has no adverse reaction yet. Bill Confer

I looked up the side effects of the stuff and quit it cold turkey. Within 4 to 5 days, I started feeling a LOT better. I haven't taken it any more, and my A1C is holding at 6.2 VA can forget about me taking Metformin. The doctors I see outside VA think that my A1C of 6.2 at almost 81 years of age is not high enough to warrant adding other meds for glucose.

That means my system over produces insulin so I have to watch what I eat and eat several smaller meals spread out over the day. If I get to much sugar my system over produces insulin and I will crash. I'm sensitive to the warning signs of shakiness and sweats and I stop what I'm doing and drink water and eat some cheese and pieces of lettuce. Taking anything sweet like Orange juice just makes my insulin production shoot right up and I get into a yoyo effect trying to flatten it out. After about 30 minutes my blood sugar comes back up. For years if my blood sugar went up to the 80's I got very sick. It normally stayed in the low 50's to mid 70's. Now over the years it has crept up until now it stays around 100 but does go to the mid 100's and I feel like crap.

I heard stories of people getting messed up by it and trying to get off of it. It bothers me that I still get my sugar crashes because I still over produce insulin and I'm worried that Metaformin was created to treat a person that does not produce enough insulin. Any ideas or thoughts?
