Years ago as I suffered through wandering pains and spasms the doctors
all wrote me up as a hypochondriac because it would flare up badly at
one point on my body for about 3 months then fade out and start up
elsewhere. Doing my own research , actually I found an article on the
front page of the inquirer while standing at the cash register line at a
local supermarket I found the answer. The article said 5 million suffer
from mystery ailment that take 7 years to discover. I looked and the
article mentioned 35 different things that Fibroymialghia caused.
Outside of no menstrual cycle troubles I hit everyone of the other
effects. The article then refereed to the arthritis foundation that got
me connected to a doctor that could properly test me. The test was very
simple. She just poked at multiple spots on my back , shoulders and neck
and I ended up looking like a puppet with spasms going off all over the
place. It took several days for it to calm down.  When I went back to
both the outside doctors and the VA doctors with my info they both said
"Why did you not tell us about all the symptoms". I then pulled out
their paper copies and pointed out their shorthand said "Patient
displaying to many symptoms will only concentrate on one or two." Then
both the outside doctors and the VA said "You are massively depressed
but don't know it." I dropped the outside doctor because they wanted to
bury me in pain meds and mind controlling drugs. The VA prescribed one
med that arthritis doctors recommended but just increased the dosage
which made me a zombie. Then they added in more meds until three times a
day I was taking 7 different meds. I could barely function and when the
doctors asked how my day went I said "I get up take pills and go back to
bed then I get up and take pills and go back to bed which is entire
day." When asked how the pain was I responded with "still there". They
tried to increase the dosage and I went to the chief of rheumatology and
said "I want off of all drugs".  It turns out 5 rugs were for various
things and two more were to counteract side effects of the first 5
drugs. She said "You want to do life style acceptance?"  I told here I
am better off knowing what hurts me every day and avoid the triggers".
I then had her do a write up explaining why I was not taking drugs. Less
than 3 months later I had doctors claiming I was refusing treatment and
I then produced the write up to explain why. It turns out the triggers
are foods that never used to bother me plus lack of sleep from
nightmares from Vietnam. I get weird looks when someone looks at my
records and sees "Nightshades" as an alergine. I then explain it's
potatoes , tomatoes , tobacco and derivatives. Glucose syrup , vitamin
d3 and vitamin a Palmite are derived from potatoes. Modified food starch
is also from potatoes. A bunch of spices are in the same group. After
avoidance for multiple months the symptoms dropped off. But to this day
I still have doctors that refuse to believe me and instead try to stuff
me full of meds claiming "you are massively depressed but just don't
know it." I always respond with "Let me take a 1X6 and slap you flat
across your back and as soon as pain shows up you have a choice take
some antidepressants or have me stop hitting you"  I get nasty looks.
